U. S. Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-OH), chairman of the Joint Economic Committee, today issued the following statement regarding the employment report for June 2017 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“This jobs report shows welcome, solid job gains and I am pleased to see the uptick in labor force participation. But, we still have a record number of job vacancies at the same time that many American workers remain on the sidelines of the labor market. Next week’s committee hearing will examine how to equip more workers with suitable skills for these 21st-century job opportunities and put a brighter future in reach for more American families.”

Note: Today’s report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that the U.S. economy added 222,000 nonfarm payroll jobs in June and the unemployment rate is 4.4 percent. The labor force participation rate is 62.8 percent. Job gains have averaged 194,000 per month since April.
