Ranking Member Mike Lee on October Jobs Report

WASHINGTON—Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), Ranking Member of the Joint Economic Committee, made the following statement on this morning’s jobs report issued by the U.S. Department of Labor:

“Our economic recovery is falling far short of the American people’s expectations. With school back in session and enhanced unemployment benefits expiring, this month’s 531,000 jobs added are a welcome improvement over last month, but our labor market is still operating well below its potential. The Biden Administration’s vaccine mandate will only make our return to work more difficult as many Americans face a cruel ultimatum: get vaccinated or lose your job.”

“New mandates, higher taxes, and more spending are not the answer. Policymakers should reform programs that discourage work and restore trust in the families and businesses driving our recovery.”

The Joint Economic Committee is Congress’s bicameral economic research center and home of the Social Capital Project, led by Ranking Member Mike Lee.
