Senator Lee on April's Employment Numbers

WASHINGTON – Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), member of the Joint Economic Committee, issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Labor Department April 2021 report:

“The economy added 266,000 payroll jobs in April, driven by gains in the leisure and hospitality sectors. Falling COVID-19 case rates and continuing vaccinations allowed more service sector businesses to reopen and more American workers to return to their jobs last month. However, last month’s jobs growth fell short of our expectations; this suggests we need a renewed focus on removing disincentives to work and encouraging uptake of our safe and effective vaccines. As we rebuild, it is more important than ever to keep taxes low and maintain a regulatory environment that supports entrepreneurship. I hope that the coming months bring even stronger payroll growth, and that we can soon fully return to the meaningful activities we do together.”
