Tiberi Statement on July Jobs Report

U. S. Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-OH), chairman of the Joint Economic Committee, today issued the following statement regarding the employment report for July 2017 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“It is encouraging to see job gains continue at a strong pace this year, especially since the increases are broadly based. Another uptick in workforce participation is a positive sign demonstrating Americans’ growing confidence in the economy.

“We still have much work to do to increase opportunities for workers to earn more and advance in their careers. But to truly unleash the job-creating power of American employers, we must continue to reduce regulatory overreach and overhaul our tax code. Tax reform will allow U.S. businesses to compete on a level playing field and allow workers to keep more of their hard-earned money to better support their families.”

Note: Today’s report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that the U.S. economy added 209,000 nonfarm payroll jobs in June and the unemployment rate is 4.3 percent. The labor force participation rate is 62.9 percent.
