Coats Statement on Indiana’s January Employment Numbers

WASHINGTON, DC – Joint Economic Committee Chairman Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today issued the following statement regarding Indiana’s January employment numbers, which were reported today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:

 

“Indiana’s unemployment rate continues to be lower than the national average and lower than our neighbors in the Midwest. Our state’s talented workforce and pro-growth policies are attracting employers and continuing Indiana’s economic progress.”

Details about Indiana’s January Employment Numbers

  • Indiana’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.6 percent in January.
  • Indiana nonfarm payroll jobs grew by 2,600, with 1,200 jobs added in construction.
  • The Indiana labor force increased by 20,400 in January and the labor force participation rate increased to 64.2 percent – a rate not seen at the federal level since 2011.
  • Nonfarm payrolls have increased by 45,800 compared to last January and private section payrolls have increased by 43,500 over that same time frame.
