Chairman Lee on January's Employment Numbers

Today, Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee Mike Lee (R-UT) released the following statement in response to the U.S. Labor Department January 2020 jobs report:

“The American job market entered 2020 on a high note, with January’s jobs numbers reflecting a continuation of many of the positive trends of 2019. Non-farm payroll jobs beat expectations and grew by 225,000 while the unemployment rate remained low, at 3.6%. Wage growth has been strong, with average hourly earnings increasing by 3.1% over the past 12 months. This month’s jobs report is another indicator of America’s economic strength and that Americans are working more and making more. Not only did productivity hit a nine-year high this week, the share of Americans satisfied with their personal lives is at its highest in four decades, according to Gallup.”
