Chairman Lee on April's Employment Numbers

Today, Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee Mike Lee (R-UT) released the following statement in response to the U.S. Labor Department April 2020 jobs report:

“Today’s unemployment report is stunning but not surprising. We’ve known for weeks the economic cost of the COVID-19 lockdowns would be high and now we are beginning to see the true extent of the economic pain. These lockdowns cannot continue indefinitely. We need to be careful, but practical. As we begin to look forward toward fully reopening the economy, we should pay special attention to the results in individual states that are experimenting with new policies. A nation-wide approach may not make the most sense. Where possible, American society should return to normal as soon as is safe.”
