Chairman Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today held a hearing titled “Examining the Employment Effects of the Affordable Care Act” where he heard testimony from witnesses on how Obamacare affects business owners, schools and local governments.

“Many of these provisions will profoundly affect businesses’ ability to expand, alter workers’ hours and schedules and reduce work flexibility for employees and local governments, especially as the law’s delayed employer provisions have now taken effect,” said Coats. “New compliance costs in terms of time and resources will add significant burden to businesses. Not only does the law affect millions of businesses and their employees, but also thousands of schools and local governments. I have heard from many Hoosier schools that are feeling the impact and have been forced to cut hours to make ends meet on already constrained budgets. This is hurting not only school employees but students from elementary school to college.”

One of the witnesses, Dr. Joseph P. Sergio of South Bend, testified how Obamacare has affected his small business. To watch Dr. Sergio’s testimony, click here. To watch Coats and Sergio’s discussion of the Affordable Care Act’s impact on his business, click here.
