Ranking Member Lee on First Quarter GDP Report

Today, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), Ranking Member of the Joint Economic Committee, released the following statement on the Bureau of Economic Analysis’ GDP estimate for the first quarter of 2021:

“As the pandemic slowly releases its grip on Americans’ lives and livelihoods, there are continued signs that 2021 will be a strong year for an economic rebound. Today’s GDP estimates are among the recent harbingers of strength: first quarter GDP advanced by 6.4 percent, buoyed in part by consumer spending and business investment. Meanwhile, consumer confidence has reached pre-pandemic highs, and coronavirus cases continue to trend downward. Over a third of U.S. adults are fully vaccinated, and more than half have received at least one dose. We are closer to normal than we have been at any point since the pandemic began, and our progress will support a continued return to normalcy for faith and worship communities, schools, and workplaces in coming months.”
