Bennett to Hold Hearing on Long-Term Health Trends of the Elderly

Washington, DC—Joint Economic Committee Chairman, Robert F. Bennett, announced today that the committee will hold a hearing on “Getting Older, Staying Healthier: The Demographics of Health Care on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at 10:00 a.m.

As healthier lifestyles, higher levels of education, and advances in health care help Americans live longer and in better health, this greater longevity will have significant effects on the overall economy and health care markets, particularly the long-term financing and structuring of Medicare and Medicaid. During the hearing, Bennett and the panelists will explore evidence regarding declining rates of chronic disability and assess the best opportunities for further health promotion.
