Ranking Member Mike Lee on February Jobs Report

WASHINGTON—Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), Ranking Member of the Joint Economic Committee, made the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that the economy added 678,000 jobs in February:

“Americans sense that our economy is not meeting its potential. While workers are finally coming off the sidelines, more than 2 million Americans are still missing from the recovery. Inflation is eroding Americans’ wages, and families are struggling to keep up.

“So much of this harm has been created by government. The government paid people not to work and flooded the economy with trillions of dollars. Yet this week in his State of the Union address, President Biden doubled down on the same tax and spend policies that are driving inflation and harming poor and middle class families.

“More spending is not the answer—the government must resist taking action that will increase inflation and get out of the way of the economic recovery.”

The Joint Economic Committee is Congress’s bicameral economic research center and home of the Social Capital Project, led by Ranking Member Mike Lee.
