Chairman Lee: Our Economy is Showing Remarkable Strength

WASHINGTON - Today, Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee Mike Lee (R-UT) released the following statement in response to the strong U.S. Labor Department April 2019 jobs report:

“The economy enters its 103rd consecutive month of job growth showing remarkable strength. The unemployment rate fell to 3.6% in April—the lowest in nearly half a century—and employers added an impressive 263,000 jobs. Average hourly earnings continue to rise at a healthy clip of 3.2% growth from a year ago. The economy’s ability to create work for Americans nearly nine years into the expansion is extraordinarily encouraging.”

Background: The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the US economy added 263,000 jobs in the month of April. BLS also revised the numbers for February up to 56,000 jobs added and March down to 189,000 jobs added. The prime-age labor force participation rate fell slightly to 82.2%.
