Chairman Lee on December's Employment Numbers

WASHINGTON - Today, Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee Mike Lee (R-UT) released the following statement in response to the U.S. Labor Department December 2019 jobs report:

“In December, payroll jobs rose by 145,000 and the unemployment rate remained at 3.5%—a level not seen from 1970 until late 2019. The prime-age employment-to-population ratio exceeded 80% for the first time since 2001. Disappointingly, year-over-year wage growth slowed to 2.9% and was lower for non-supervisory workers than others. Over 2019 employment growth slowed, but the labor market nevertheless continues to show strength as we move into 2020."
