In attempting to sell Congress on his plan for a government takeover of health care, President Obama famously promised: “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.” (New York Times, August 15, 2009.)

Following enactment of the Democrats’ Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act—which passed Congress without a single Republican vote—Joint Economic Committee Republicans pored over the 2,700-page, $2.6 trillion law to gauge the accuracy of the President’s reassuring promise. 

We present our findings in chart form, and invite the public to judge for itself.
