Weekly Economic Update: July 15-19, 2013
Retail sales increased a slower-than-expected 0.4% in June. Business inventories rose 0.1% in May. The topline consumer price index rose 0.5% in June while the core rose 0.2%. Industrial production increased 0.3% in June. Housing starts fell 9.9% to a lower-than-expected annualized 0.836 million units in June. Building permits fell 7.5% in June to an annualized pace of 0.911 million units. Initial jobless claims fell 24,000 to 334,000 for the week ended 7/13.
• Retail sales increased a slower-than-expected 0.4% in June. Excluding autos, retail sales were unchanged, but excluding both autos and gasoline, sales were down 0.1%.
• Business inventories rose 0.1% in May.
• The topline consumer price index rose 0.5% in June while the core rose 0.2%.
• Industrial production increased 0.3% in June.
• Housing starts fell 9.9% to a lower-than-expected annualized 0.836 million units in June. The June starts level was the lowest since August 2012.
• Building permits fell 7.5% in June to an annualized pace of 0.911 million units.
• Initial jobless claims fell 24,000 to a level of 334,000 for the week ended July 13th.
