Paulsen Statement on January Jobs Report

Congressman Erik Paulsen (R-MN), chairman of the Joint Economic Committee, released the following statement regarding the Bureau of Labor Statistics January 2018 employment report:

"Broad-based job growth of 200,000 and wage growth of 2.9 percent during the past 12 months are good news for all Americans.  It reaffirms that the economy is rising from its slow-growth trajectory. I'm encouraged that we added 226,000 construction jobs and 186,000 manufacturing jobs, respectively, over the year.

"The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, together with our ongoing efforts to improve the regulatory setting in America, should continue to strengthen the economy’s performance for the benefit of all Americans."

Note: The U.S. economy added 196,000 private and 4,000 government nonfarm payroll jobs in January. The unemployment rate remained at 4.1 percent.
