Tiberi Statement on August Jobs Report
U. S. Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-OH), chairman of the Joint Economic Committee, today issued the following statement regarding the employment report for August 2017 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics:
“This jobs report is welcome news as was the upward revision of second quarter GDP to 3.0 percent earlier in the week. We have made progress holding back costly regulations the Obama Administration had wanted to rush into place during its waning days and will continue to reduce burdensome red tape.
“Our main focus as Congress returns is tax reform. I remain confident that a simpler, fairer tax system can improve the economy’s performance, increase the rate of job creation, grow salaries, and create more opportunities for American entrepreneurs and families.
“While Hurricane Harvey did not impact this jobs report, our hearts go out to Texas and Louisiana families who were affected by the storm.”
Note: Today’s report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that the U.S. economy added 156,000 nonfarm payroll jobs in August and the unemployment rate is 4.4 percent. The labor force participation rate is 62.9 percent.
