Tiberi Statement on October Jobs Report

U. S. Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-OH), chairman of the Joint Economic Committee, today issued the following statement regarding the employment report for October 2017 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“As hoped, September’s job loss due to the hurricanes reversed with a substantial gain in October and upward revisions to the previous two months’ jobs numbers. This is reassuring, although I hope for more improvement to follow.

“This week, we have taken an important step toward helping the economy grow faster. With the introduction of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, we are one step closer to overhauling our tax code to encourage employers to grow, expand, and hire more and allow workers to keep more of their hard-earned money.

“This historic effort puts American workers and employers first in order to create a brighter future for all of us.”

Note: Today’s report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that the U.S. economy gained 261,000 nonfarm payroll jobs in October and the unemployment rate dropped to 4.1 percent. The labor force participation rate is 62.7 percent.
