Coats Statement on April Jobs Report

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Joint Economic Committee Chairman Dan Coats (R-Ind.) issued the following statement regarding today’s report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) that the U.S. economy added 160,000 nonfarm payroll jobs in April, the unemployment rate remained at 5.0 percent and the labor force participation rate fell to 62.8 percent:

“Today’s lackluster report demonstrates that more must be done to achieve sustained and robust growth. As we continue to witness paltry growth in this recovery, businesses and their workers remain stymied by burdensome taxes and regulations. Yet President Obama has not changed course. He continues to pursue stifling regulations and refuses to partner with Congress to achieve comprehensive tax reform and other pro-growth policies. We need to remove barriers to economic growth and unlock our job creating potential.”
