WASHINGTON, D.C. — Joint Economic Committee Chairman Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today issued a statement regarding the 70th anniversary of the formation of the Joint Economic Committee.

“For 70 years the Joint Economic Committee has served as Congress’s incubator of economic thought and a vital sounding board for fiscal policy proposals,” said Coats. “The JEC continues to foster important discussion on ways to encourage growth in our changing world. It is an honor to serve as the Committee’s chairman, and I look forward to continuing the mission of the JEC this year.”

The Employment Act of 1946, signed into law on February 20, 1946, established two advisory panels: the President's Council of Economic Advisers and the Joint Economic Committee. The Joint Economic Committee’s primary tasks are reviewing economic conditions and recommending improvements in economic policy.

Chairmanship of the Committee alternates between the Senate and House every Congress. The Chairman of the Committee for the 114th Congress is Senator Dan Coats of Indiana. The Vice Chair is Representative Pat Tiberi of Ohio. The Ranking Member is Representative Carolyn Maloney of New York.
