Coats: Indiana Unemployment at Lowest Point Since 2001

Joint Economic Committee Chairman Dan Coats (R-Ind.) praised Indiana’s October employment numbers, which were reported today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“Indiana’s unemployment rate is currently at its lowest point since 2001. Over the past three years, Indiana’s private employment has grown by nearly 140,000 jobs. These numbers reflect the success of Indiana’s pro-growth policies. Employers are taking notice of our healthy business climate and coming into our state to establish new businesses, which is driving labor force participation up and unemployment down.

“With a state unemployment rate well below the national average, Indiana continues to set an example for the rest of the country. To continue this success, federal policies must encourage, rather than hinder, economic growth in Indiana and around our nation.”

Details about Indiana’s October Employment Numbers

  • Indiana’s unemployment rate fell to 4.4% in October.
  • The Hoosier labor force grew by 4,200 workers in October.
  • In October, 20 states had jobless rates lower than the U.S. national rate of 5.0%, including Indiana.
