JEC Dems State Wage Growth Tracker Highlights Families’ Wages Growing Faster Than Prices

Washington, D.C.—Today, the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) Democrats unveiled a wage growth tracker that shows how wages have fared against inflation in each state since January 2021. JEC Dems found that in nearly every state, average wages and salaries for families are growing faster than price growth.

Discussions of rising costs don’t tell the whole story if they ignore the significant wage and salary growth families have seen since the start of 2021. The tracker reveals that:

  • The average family in Virginia makes an additional $22,182 per year compared to January 2021— outpacing a measure of price growth by $8,255.
  • The average family in Georgia makes an additional $19,163 per year compared to January 2021— outpacing a measure of price growth by $6,228.
  • The average family in Pennsylvania makes an additional $18,016 per year compared to January 2021— outpacing a measure of price growth by $5,979.
  • The average family in New Mexico makes an additional $17,241 per year compared to January 2021 — outpacing a measure of price growth by $4,821.

The Biden-Harris administration is delivering an economy with historically strong wage growth. Under this administration, annual inflation has fallen for the last six months and the economy has added 16 million jobs. Democrats will continue investing in workers and fighting to lower costs for families.
