WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), Chairman of the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee (JEC), released the following statement on the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ July 2012 jobs report showing that 163,000 total nonfarm jobs were added and the unemployment rate was little changed at 8.3 percent:
“Our economy has added jobs in the private sector for 29 consecutive months, but we need to see larger numbers in order to bring down our unemployment rate.
“Far too many Americans are still struggling as a result of the economic downturn. Today’s data remind us that we have more to do to put Americans back to work. It is clear that Washington should make job creation legislation the priority for the reminder of the year.”
