Statement from JEC Vice Chair Klobuchar on National Equal Pay Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Vice Chair of the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee (JEC), released the following statement on National Equal Pay Day
2013:

“Ensuring equal pay for women lifts up families and strengthens our economy,” Klobuchar said. “While we’ve made incredible strides over the past few decades, on this year’s National Equal Pay Day we must recommit ourselves to ensuring a level playing field for women in the workplace.”

Klobuchar was a cosponsor of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which was passed into law in 2009 and restores a reasonable time limit in which people can file pay discrimination claims. She is also a cosponsor of the Paycheck Fairness Act, which prohibits employers from retaliating against employees who discuss or disclose salary information with their co-workers and makes it easier for women to file class-action
lawsuits against employers they accuse of sex-based pay discrimination.
