Heinrich Statement on 2nd Quarter GDP Data

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M), Ranking Member of the Joint Economic Committee, released the following statement today after the Bureau of Economic Analysis announced gross domestic product (GDP) data for the 2nd quarter:

“It's clear now, after two quarters under President Trump and the Republican-led Congress, that we will not deliver the good jobs and rising incomes that Americans are looking for if the costly economic uncertainty from their failed ideological agenda continues. GDP growth averaged just 1.9 percent in the first half of this year. Wages have fallen in 43 states and the District of Columbia since President Trump took office.

“Democrats have better ideas on how to chart a course for a future economy that creates good jobs and provide paths for the middle class to succeed. Too much is at stake for the people of New Mexico and across America to succumb to partisan politics. I stand ready to work with my Republican colleagues on a number of bills this Congress to find common ground and real compromises that deliver enduring solutions for our constituents.”
