Washington, D.C.— Today, Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Chairman of the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee (JEC), released the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that prices measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 0.3% in November. Data also show that annual prices grew 2.7.% over the last year.
“President-Elect Trump’s inflationary policies will erase all of the hard work we’ve put in to get inflation under control. Don’t be fooled. Mexico, Canada, and China will not pay for tariffs. Americans will.”
“Imposing new tariffs will hike up prices on food, appliances, and everyday goods. And border states like New Mexico will feel the brunt of it. His policies are bad for the state, our economy, and for Americans across the country.”
