Washington, D.C.—A new fact sheet released today by the Joint Economic Committee Democrats highlights the detrimental impact of restricting reproductive health care on women and the U.S. economy.
Studies show that abortion bans are costing the economy $68 billion per year since Roe v. Wade was struck down. Meanwhile, 8 states with the strongest abortion protections help Americans avoid $45 billion in economic costs annually.
“The data is crystal clear: abortion bans strip women of their fundamental freedom to choose, put women’s lives at risk, and pose serious consequences for our economy. We can’t let that trend continue,” said Senator Martin Heinrich. “While Republicans are banning everything from abortions to IVF, Democrats are fighting to restore your reproductive freedom.”
