Joint Economic Committee Democrats Release Key Consumer Protection Accomplishments

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Joint Economic Committee Democrats today released a fact sheet highlighting top accomplishments of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) since the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act was enacted in 2010. The analysis shows how the CFPB has held financial companies accountable and safeguarded U.S. consumers as Republicans in Congress continue to undermine the CFPB and its critical work. The summary found the CFPB has helped over 29 million individual consumers receive nearly $12 billion dollars in due relief, while reducing $7.7 billion in consumer debts.

The fact sheet entitled, “Key Consumer Protection Accomplishments,” also found the CFPB has provided $130 million in due compensation to military service members, veterans and their families that were harmed by illegal private sector predatory practices. The CFPB has also saved consumers more than $16 billion in undisclosed credit card fees.

The fact sheet can be found online here.
