Each month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) releases national and state-level data on U.S. employment, which provide useful information about the state of the labor market and progress toward building a better America. To highlight key trends in the monthly data, the Joint Economic Committee compiles state-by-state fact sheets for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The most recent state-level data, which cover the month of July, were released on August 19, 2022. The latest national data were released on August 5th, 2022.
Fact sheets will be updated next on September 20, 2022, following the BLS release of new state employment data on September 16.

In the month of July, the latest for which national data are available, 528,000 jobs were created. The United States has now more than recovered all the jobs lost during the pandemic recession, and the unemployment rate has fallen to 3.5%, which was a 50-year low.

Since President Biden came into office, more than 9.5 million jobs have been created nationwide, an average of 529,000 created each month.

The unemployment rate declined for adult women (3.1%), adult men (3.2%), Asian workers (2.6%), Hispanic workers (3.9%) and white workers (3.1%) and rose slightly for Black workers (6.0%).
