Each month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) releases national and state-level data on U.S. employment, which provide useful information about the state of the labor market and progress toward building a better America.
To highlight key trends in the monthly data, the Joint Economic Committee compiles state-by-state fact sheets for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
The most recent state-level data, which cover the month of March, were released on April 15, 2022. The latest national data were released on April 1, 2022.
Unemployment rates were lower in 37 states and stable in 13 states and the District of Columbia. In total, 17 states have unemployment rates at or below previous record lows.
Fact sheets will be updated next on May 23, 2022, following the BLS release of new state employment data on May 20. See last month's data here.
