Heinrich Statement on January Jobs Report

U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Ranking Member of the Joint Economic Committee, issued the following statement today after the Department of Labor announced 200,000 jobs were added in January:

“In a speech marked by divisiveness and broken promises, President Trump addressed the country this week and touted a rosy picture of the economic state of our country. What the president failed to note is that many families are still struggling to get on their feet post recovery.

“Over the past year of the Trump administration, the president has done little to address the real economic challenges families face—and the little action he has taken will prove to be disastrous. His tax scam legislation will stick future generations with an additional $1.5 trillion in debt and, when it is fully implemented, working families across the country will actually see a tax hike. Repeated attempts to sabotage health care have threatened the economic security and peace of mind of millions of Americans. And by abandoning Dreamers, he has put at risk the futures of hundreds of thousands of young Americans.

“Instead of building on the progress of recovery he inherited from his predecessor, we have seen nothing but empty promises and repeated attacks against working families. There is much to be done to make real change in the lives of millions of Americans.”
